Comfortable lodging is offered - with lockable rooms in our
spacious house. We supply food staples - and you can add whatever foods -
to make your own fixins' in our spacious kitchen. For a change of pace, a
local Lao lady can make a full tilt meal once in awhile, with all the exotic
flavors of northern Laos - no added charge. There's a large rooftop tiled
deck for whatever catches your fancy. There are bicycles on hand, and
motorbikes or cars are available for rent from town. Internet in town.
At this time, neither TV nor internet is on hand on site - though those could be
added later - as needed. The rural grounds are beautiful and secluded with
small swimming pool and, for the more daring, skinny dipping at night.
Bike and hiking trails abound.
How to get to Chiang Rai. You can take a cheap flight from Bangkok or come by bus. Either way, I'll meet you at the airport or the bus station in my beat-up pick-up truck. We can then go to the market to shop for whatever food I don't already have stocked at the main house - and do whatever needs to be done in town before heading the 12 minutes out to get comfortable at the farmstead.
About Ken: I'm a middle-aged American who's resided here for eight years. I've dabbled as a writer, a musician, a gardener, and many other interests which we can touch upon when we meet. I don't reside in the house mentioned above, but instead stay at a smaller house nearby. Lots of details of my first eight years - developing the farmstead (solo, with few connections, scant funds, and no handle on the language) in my new book: Farmsteading in Thailand - which is available for free as an E-book to whomever fills out the 2-minute online response form. By submitting the form, you're entitled to a free copy of the E-Book: "Farmsteading in Thailand" written by Ken.
Special 7-day activities, mentioned below, can happen any time two or more folks express keen interest...
Hammock making workshop, each participant makes a minimum of one high quality hammock with teak wood end pieces. We have specially made frames and a lively choice of colors. Our instructors used to make hammocks professionally, so they know what it's about. If we get at least 3 people to sign up, it will happen.
Milarepa Retreat - Get immersed in Milarepa's incredible story of immense challenges and his ultimately attainment of .....well, we don't want to spoil it by telling too much. Suffice to say, Milarepa (Tibetan saint from 900 years ago) is the ascetic's ascetic - and he clearly showed how any man or woman can excel if they put their mind to it. Second week is optional and consists of cleansing fasts, spiritual discussions, and meditations.
Rock Climbing near Chiang Rai - A full week of mostly bouldering and scrambling in cool places that only Ken knows about. Each day we explore a different crag. Bring good shoes and get ready for an enjoyable work-out in some of the most scenic areas you can imagine.
