about Lali....
a beautiful young Burmese woman who escapes from a brothel in northern Thailand and is befriended by an American entrepreneur who brings her to California. After many adventures, she finds herself lost in the Sierra Nevada foothills and is taken in by a group back-to-nature campers that have embraced Native American ways.

Loosely based on actual events stemming from the author's several years residence in Southeast Asia, the story offers quirky insights and comparisons of cultures, most notably;

- Southeast Asian with U.S. -
-  Burmese with Native American -

Woven throughout the story are behind-the-scenes glimpses of the sexual bondage business that goes on in Thailand and Burma.

Lali's first two professional book reviews
»

"This book had a lot of details as to what southeast Asia is really like. Lali was a delightful character! I enjoyed following her story and seeing the world through her eyes. She was refreshingly innocent in her own way! All-in-all, I found this book to be a very good debut novel that anyone interested in Asia would enjoy!"

"I really enjoyed reading the book. The tale of Lali's adventures as she struggles to cope with the complexities of western culture is both hilarious and thought provoking. With a treasure hunt thrown in, Lali's Passage is a book well worth reading."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    Ken moved to Thailand from California in 1998 with no prior connections. His sense that making friends there would be easy was borne out, and he plans to stay for the long term. When bored, he goes out solo to one of the surrounding limestone karst cliff faces to 'free climb.' Besides writing, he's developing a farmstead on rural property near Chiang Rai. Email

This story would make a great movie. Anyone interested in collaborating on a screenplay version, please contact the author.
